Our academic staff have extensive industry experience, allowing them to bring real-world insights into the classroom, and possess strong research backgrounds that contribute to advancements in their respective fields. Our lecturers continuously improve and innovate our curriculum and teaching methods to respond to the industry needs and student's feedback.
As a student, you will belong to one of the three schools within the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media, depending on the course you study with us. School of Engineering and Sustainable Development
Many of our academics have direct experience of working within industry. Our active Industrial Liaison Committee formed from industrialists from a diverse range of engineering disciplines, helps to inform the design of our programmes ensuring that the needs of current and future industry are met. Our programmes are hands-on, with a minimum of 50% practical and laboratory-based content in which students gain experience working on real-world engineering, underpinned by state-of-the-art theory in all branches of engineering delivered by academics with active research interests. Our content keeps pace with the rapid evolution of the fundamental technology and ensures that engineering solutions are sustainable.
Leicester Media School
Leicester Media School has been preparing graduates for the media industries for nearly 100 years: combining excellent technical knowledge with industry practice and real-world context, our academics are passionate about getting students involved in the creative industries – proven by our excellent links with practitioners, entrepreneurs and organisations throughout the city. Most of our academics are practitioners and have industry experience, meaning there is a perfect blend of real-world experience and critical knowledge. During your time here, you could find yourself reporting on Leicester Comedy Festival, or networking with creative businesses at one of our in-house events.
School of Computer Science and Informatics
Academics in the School of Computer Science and Informatics at De Montfort work at the forefront of where computing impacts society. You will be taught by research-active experts with a wealth of academic and industry experience. Our research projects have advised the EU on regulation of Artificial Intelligence, and we lead a European project to investigate online radicalisation of older citizens. Our AI researchers have provided the Police with tools to make stop-and-search practice fairer, and schools with analysis to improve attendance, and our cyber security researchers work to protect critical national infrastructure, such as power stations and water companies, against cyber attacks.
