Practical Selection Day

Why should I attend a Practical Selection Day?

Attending a Practical Selection Day is a key part of our selection process, as your course requires specific skills and abilities. It’s an excellent opportunity to showcase your talents and creativity while we assess your skill level, collaboration, and how you respond to direction. You’ll meet us in person, ask any questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the course. Plus, you’ll connect with current and prospective students, explore the campus, and tour our facilities and accommodation, giving you a feel for the community you’ll be joining.

Practical Selection Day schedule

The schedule may vary depending on the course, so please select your specific program to find the detailed timings and plan your day. Don't forget to wear comfortable clothing and footwear to ensure you feel at ease throughout the day.

What can you do to prepare?

We know many of you have already thought about what to include in your solo performance, and that’s great! Ask yourself whether your performance shows the full range of your skills and reflects your personality. Remember, we’re not looking for perfection, but for your potential. We’re eager to see your passion for the subject, so let your enthusiasm shine through!

  1. Audition video advice

Make sure your work showcases your performance skills and potential. We understand that students come from various backgrounds, so we’re looking for work that demonstrates not only your performance skills but also your potential to grow and develop in your chosen subject area.

    What we want to see:

    • A two to five-minute video.
    • Start with a short personal introduction—tell us about yourself, your performance skills, and your interest in the course.
    • Share a brief insight into your understanding of the methods and styles of performance you've learned, showing your enthusiasm and experience.
    • Research the specific features of your chosen course, as each focuses on contemporary practice.
    • Include a performance piece that showcases your skills— for Acting please prepare two contrasting monologues - one from the 21st century and one from before the 21st century. For Dance please prepare a short solo performance, choreographed by you or with a teacher.

    How can you prepare?

    • Ensure the video represents you, showcasing your skills, creativity, and passion for your chosen subject.
    • There’s no right or wrong way—just make sure it’s clear what you’re trying to communicate.
    • Follow the advice specific to your course.
