Students at Æß²ÊÖ±²¥ (Æß²ÊÖ±²¥) have been awarded prizes for their research on sustainability at a recent conference.
The Æß²ÊÖ±²¥ Doctoral College co-hosted the East Midlands Doctoral Network (EMDoc) postgraduate research conference focused on sustainability from Wednesday 9 – Thursday 10 September, with the University of Leicester.
The consists of nine universities within the East Midlands region and share best practice, resources and insights into postgraduate research, as well as providing opportunities for collaboration and networking amongst the organisations’ students.
More than 110 people attended the online conference, with people as far away as Mexico and India delivering talks and attending. Postgraduate research students were either presenting posters or 10-minute presentations to the audience, and there was also a Three Minute Thesis competition.
10 postgraduate research students from Æß²ÊÖ±²¥ participated and delivered their research on sustainability.
Three of these students were awarded prizes for their research:

Best presentation: Sanaa Rashid (Faculty of Health and Life Sciences), “A polymer supported iron catalyst to degrade pollutants in wastewater – a radical solution”

Winner of ‘Best Overall Presentation’, Sanaa Rashid said: “I really enjoyed the EMDOC 2020 conference where I had the chance to meet other amazing researchers and hear about how their research aligns with the UN sustainability goals.
“I also engaged in interesting discussions with my peers about my own presentation as well as others which was very insightful.”
